You are allowed to request an appeal of an indicated finding on your own. The request itself is paperwork with a deadline, and missing that deadline usually ends the matter.
The hearing is a different story. It is an evidentiary proceeding with rules of evidence, witness testimony and cross-examination, and DCFS is represented by counsel. Parents who attend without a qualified attorney have almost no chance of winning.
