When DCFS removes children, it must hold a shelter care hearing before a judge. At that hearing the prosecutor has to prove the removal was necessary — it is your first real opportunity to be heard.
DCFS tries to place children with a relative or a close family friend who does not live with the accused parent. Bring the names and contact information of appropriate relatives to court.
Appear at every single hearing, complete anything the judge orders, and have an experienced DCFS abuse and neglect attorney represent you from the start.
