If DCFS believes a man is the father of a child in a case, the judge will order a DNA test.
Once paternity is confirmed, that father may have visitation rights and can seek custody or placement of the child.
Ask to be made a party to the case as early as possible. Fathers who appear late often find placement decisions already made.
